Review Spiderman Homecoming

Just watched Spiderman Homecoming during a press screening a couple of days ago as part of my work, and I couldn't be more impressed. So I decided to review a movie for the first time in my blog. This contains spoilers.

Throughout my whole life, I've watched 3 Spidermans, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. And I have to say that Tom is my favorite. The main reason is really personal though. Because, finally, Peter Parker doesn't live such a tragic life.

In the first film I saw, Spiderman (2002), Peter lost his parents and Uncle Ben, so he always looked sad (at least for me) or gloomy, which was totally the opposite of Spiderman who I found funny and cheerful, especially when he fought his enemies. Just compare the fighting scene of Spiderman with Captain America, then you'll see how Spiderman can turn the fightings scene into something bubbly, instead of scary.

The second movie, The Amazing Spiderman is even sadder. Not only Peter lost his Uncle Ben (and obsessed to find the killer), he also lost her girlfriend, Gwen, whom also lost her father.

There are 2 The Amazing Spiderman movies and so many people just die -Uncle Ben, Gwen's father, Gwen. In addition to that, I can't forget the scene when Aunt May cried cause she had to take classes to be nurse and had to study with younger students so Peter could go to college. Deaths and financial problem, Peter just can't catch a break.

And finally, in the new Spiderman Homecoming, Peter's life is not that tragic. He still lost his Uncle Ben, though the movie doesn't explain how. But Aunt May is so hot and doesn't seem to have trouble financially.

Though many people don't like the portrayal of younger Aunt May, played by Marissa Tomei, for me it just make sense. Peter is an orphan, and he needs someone to raise him like parents, and someone to be his friend, like his uncle. Aunt May, in Homecoming, is both.

There were scenes where Aunt May helped Peter picked suits and learn how to dance. She also dropped Peter to Liz's party and, again, taught him how to talk with girls. This would be impossible in the previous installments.

Other scene was the one in the restaurant, when May joked about larb to cheer Peter up. This hot cool fun aunt is what Peter needs, especially after he lost his loved ones, don't you think?

The appearance of Ned as his best friend makes this Spiderman more fun. Remember the 2002 Spiderman when Peter's best friend, Harry Osbourne turned into Goblin? Not a good friendship. While the 2012 Spiderman, Peter simply had no friends at all, except for Gwen Stacy.

Besides hot Aunt May and funny Ned, It's really refreshing to see MJ (Michelle Joan) played by Zendaya in a new persona. Not because she's black (the last Fantastic Four movie presents black Johnny Storm), but cause this MJ is smart and quirky. So different from Kirsten Dunst's version, in which MJ is an actress. She and Peter is not really close in this movie, but how many couple really hit it off right from the start? Take it from me, who married my high school sweetheart. It just makes is even more special and I honestly can't wait for the sequel to see MJ and Peter realtionship change.

Spiderman Homecoming also highlighted that Peter Parker is a teenager and teen makes mistakes... a lot.

From small things, like losing his backpack, to the big one, like when Spiderman accidentally splits a ship in half. Fortunately, he has his guardian, Iron Man.

Every time Spiderman causes big trouble that threatens other people's life, Iron Man will come to the rescue. Iron Man always save the day that I unconsciously waiting for him to save Spiderman again during the last fight. Of course it doesn't happened. Because, as many teens do, they learn from their mistakes.

After asking for help and no Iron Man coming, Spiderman pushes himself to the limit. And he beat Vulture without help from Iron Man or other superheroes.

In the end of the movie, Peter refuses Tony Stark's offer about becoming an Avenger. He'd prefer to become friendly neighborhood superhero, because somebody needs to take care common people. It's trus and, again, make more sense as Peter is only 15 years old. He's not ready to fight to save the world, yet. For now, New York is big enough for him.
